Search and Rescue
It was a completely new experience Directing 2000 ft in the air. It takes a lot of prep, blocking, safety briefing, safety straps on safety straps, and learning a lot of new jargon when directing air to air helicopter coverage. The feeling of looking out an open door and seeing the Rockies below your feet is breathtaking. I wanted to capture every second of it.
This was also a big VFX challenge, as we obviously couldn’t film in a real snow storm. We created a full green screen set in a hangar, and literally had people shaking the helicopter to give it a realistic feel. We shot multiple plate backgrounds and created snow and atmosphere through Houdini and Nuke. Every shot in this video has some sort of VFX applied to it.
